National Swimming Success

Charlotte Murray and John Rogan competed at the National Division 2 Swimming Champs in Rotorua from 17th - 22nd March with over 600 swimmers from across the country and a 14 strong team from the Masterton Swimming Club.

Charlotte had a huge week at her first major National event. As a 12 year old, she had to meet the 13 year old girls qualifying times to be eligible to swim.  She qualified in 8 events and swam significant personal best times and achieved excellent gains in her rankings; 53rd to 25th in the 50m fly, 38th to 25th for 200m freestyle, 35th to 13th in 100m freestyle, 134th to 65th in the 100m individual medley and the highlight was a sub 30 second 50m freestyle swim to be one of two 12 year olds in the 50 free finals, initially going in to the heats ranked 32nd she finished 8th. This made her the fastest 13 and under female from the Wellington Region and she was selected to represent Wellington in the Allstars zonal team relay where they picked up bronze.

John Rogan qualified in the 13 year old boys 200m individual medley and claimed a 2.60 second improvement on his personal best time and climbed in the rankings 8 places to 53rd overall.

Both Charlotte and John will be setting their sights on the NZ Secondary School Swimming Champs in September 2018.
