Chanel College Priority Enrolment Procedure
We are a Special Catholic Character College nestled in the heart of the Wairarapa. As the only college offering Catholic education in our region, we are in the unique position of being able to provide students with the faith formation while developing the whole student in small classes.
There are two ways to enrol;
1. As ‘preference‘, meaning your child is baptised Catholic (5.1), you are Catholic (5.3), there is a significant person in the students life who is a member of the Catholic Church (5.4). Baptism Certificates must be provided as proof of the preference. If no Baptism Certificate is available the catholic church office where the baptism took place will re-issue a new certificate.
2. As ‘non-preference‘. There are limited places for this category; only 5% of the total student roll can be non-preference. If that has been achieved your child can go on our school’s waiting list.
Preference student enrolments
1. State integrated schools select preference students on the following grounds.
a. The Bishop’s agent for determining preference is Fr Bruce England, Mrs Sharon Penny or Mrs Debra Marshall-Lobb
b. The eligibility criteria for preference are as follows:
The criteria to be used by Proprietors, and their authorised agents, when determining whether or not the parents of a child have established such a particular or general religious connection with the Catholic Special Character are:
1. The child has been baptised or prepared for baptism in the Catholic Church.
2. The child’s parents/guardians have already allowed one or more of its siblings to be baptised in the Catholic faith.
3. At least one parent/guardian is a Catholic, and although their child has not yet been baptised, the child’s participation in the school’s life could lead to the parents having the child baptised.
4. With the child’s parent/legal guardian’s agreement, a significant familial adult such as a grandparent, aunt or uncle who is actively involved in the child’s upbringing will support the child’s formation in the faith practices of the Catholic Church.
5. One or both of a child’s non-Catholic parents.

Priorities for Preference Enrolment
Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

Waiting List Procedure
All unsuccessful applicants may choose to have their names placed on a waiting list. The waiting list will be kept within relevant priority categories, ranked in order. Students on the waiting list may be offered places at a later date if they become available. The waiting list will remain current until the beginning of the next enrolment intake. Applicants on the waiting list will have the first offer of places as they become available. (Please see the attached letter on Guidelines for Managing Maximum Rolls, from NZCEO)
Pre-enrolment Procedure
Each year applications will be open and advertised in daily or community papers, school newsletters circulating in the school’s areas. All applicants will be advised of their application’s outcome as soon as possible after the individual’s enrollment process.
Notes
- Applicants seeking priority status based on enrolment at a particular primary school may be required to provide proof of enrolment at that school.
- Applicants seeking priority status based on a sibling relationship may be required to produce proof of that relationship.
