Physics Level 2 

NCEA Level 2 Physics follows on from NCEA Level 1 Science and offers an insight into the fundamental ways the world works scientifically and its relationship with technology. It is basically the study of the matter and energy that makes up the physical world. Both theoretical and practical work is included and the topics you will study include waves, mechanics, nuclear physics as well as electricity and electro-magnetism. Physics students are encouraged to be thoughtful, team players and to work hard. You will learn to use Physics equipment and have fun finding out more about the world around you in our well-equipped laboratory. Most students who take NCEA Level 2 Physics continue to NCEA Level 3 Physics. This course is important for students interested in studying other Science subjects such as engineering and electronics, and those who are interested in careers as pilots, vets and in medicine. It is suitable for students who have successfully studied and passed the Physics components of NCEA Level 1 Science and who are confident mathematicians. The standards on offer will be selected from those listed below (minimum 16 credits). 

Physics Level 3 & Scholarship

NCEA Level 3 Physics follows on from NCEA Level 2 Physics and offers an insight into the fundamental ways the world works scientifically and its relationship with technology. Basically it is the study of the matter and energy that makes up the physical world. The topics studied include wave systems, mechanical systems, atoms, photons and nuclei, as well as electrical systems. Students will encounter many key scientific ideas and concepts that support study in other science subjects and related areas such as engineering and the health sciences. This course is a pre-university course and is important for students interested in going on to study Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Health Science, Food Technology, and many other similar fields at a higher level. The main topics (waves, mechanics and electrical systems) build on understanding developed at Level 2.
