Hard Materials Technology

Hard Materials Technology

Year 9 Hard Materials Technology (10 week course)

This course follows technology principles and students use a range of materials, techniques and equipment to answer a technology brief. Projects are made using a range of materials with wood and metal being the predominant materials used.

Year 10 Hard Materials Technology (1/2 year option)

The design process is used to work through problem solving and the production of solutions. Two projects are carried out using a range of different materials; although the majority of materials used are wood and metal based.

 Materials Technology Level 1

This course is based on Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum. All three technology curriculum strands will be covered in the course. These strands include: Technological Knowledge, Technological Practice and Nature of Technology. Students will complete one major task where they explore a variety of materials and construction techniques, and design and construct technological outcomes (products) that address a need or opportunity. They will use technological modelling to test their design ideas to ensure their potential to contribute to a final outcome.

Hard Materials Technology Level 2

This course enables students to build on the knowledge and skills they developed in Hard Materials Technology Level 1. The course is based on Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum. All three technology curriculum strands will be covered in the course. These strands are: Technological Knowledge, Technological Practice and Nature of Technology. Students will complete one major task where they explore a variety of materials and construction techniques, and design and construct technological outcomes (products) that address a need or opportunity. They will use technological modelling to test their design ideas to ensure their potential to contribute to a final outcome.

Hard Materials Technology Level 3 & Scholarship

This course enables students to build on the knowledge and skills they developed in Hard Materials Technology Level 2.
