Chemistry Level 2
Chemistry follows on from Level 1 Science and looks at patterns in matter. You will be studying chemical fundamentals – the atom, ions and molecules; chemical formula and equations; structure and bonding. Then you will learn about reactions and reactivity and the energies involved. You will learn about the fascinating chemistry of carbon, identifying chemical substances and learn to use chemical equipment during your internal assessments. Most students who take NCEA Level 2 Chemistry carry on to NCEA Level 3 Chemistry. Chemistry leads on to Careers in Engineering, Technology, Medicine, Plastics, Art, The Services and many other areas in society. All students who wish to study Biology at tertiary level must have a basic knowledge of Chemistry. This subject at Level 2 gives you a thorough understanding of how matter is arranged in the world. The standards on offer will be selected from those listed below (minimum 16 credits).
Chemistry Level 3 & Scholarship
NCEA Level 3 Chemistry follows on from NCEA Level 2 Chemistry and looks at the properties and patterns in matter. You will study how Chemistry impacts on our lives; what the particles of matter are made of, how particles are joined together (bonding), chemical formula and equations particularly related to acids, bases and salt solutions. You will study the building blocks of our bodies, Carbon and its compounds. You will also learn to use chemical equipment in our laboratory and have fun identifying and testing compounds. Students studying NCEA Level 3 Chemistry are well prepared to enter tertiary studies in Chemistry, Engineering, Technology, Medicine, Vet, Plastics and Art, and many other areas. Chemistry also supports careers in the Police, Food and Hospitality, Agriculture, Viticulture and Horticulture
